Blockbuster On The Way From Sony Pictures: The Witches

You might have seen the 1990 movie called “The Witches,” and probably you are a child during that time. Maybe you also imagine yourself how to escape from a witch when it attacked you. But what if there are lots of witches having a conference in the hotel where you are staying? That would have been something. This is exactly what the movie is all about. But before we go into some details, let’s talk about where this movie came from.

Source and adaptation

The movie came from the novel by Roald Dahl in 1983. The first movie derived from that particular novel was “The Witches” in 1990. The setting was in England, and it was directed by Nicolas Roeg. Eighteen years later, the new adaptation began in December 2008. It was Guillermo del Toro’s desire to create a stop motion film that triggered the adaptation. However, there were no developments made since then. After ten years, the project began to emerge again. It started in June 2018 and for 30 long years; finally, the new adaptation of the movie “The Witches” is completed and will be launched by Sony Pictures this October 9, 2020.

The Blockbuster Plot

The story seems so identical to the 1990 film, but there were some changes to expect. However, the essence of the story is still there. It was about a boy who happens to stumble upon a conference of witches accidentally. He managed to hide himself and learned that the witches led by their Grand High Witch were planning to eliminate all the children on the planet. When the witches discovered the boy, he managed to escape but was later captured when he went back to his grandmother’s room.

After he was captured, the witches held him and let him drunk a potion, which turned him into a mouse. The rest of the story is how the boy finds friends who helped him defeat the witches, leading them trapped in their demise. The scriptwriter and director of this Sony Pictures film said that this new adaptation was more accurately based on its book than the one in 1990.
